He was born into a sports family.He was named as a McDonald’s All-American in high school.At the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship, Jarred Vanderbilt won a gold medal with the 2015 USA U16 National Team as he scored 19 points in 19 minutes of play at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit, as Team USA defeated the World Select Team 98–87.He averaged 28.5 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game as a senior in high school.He was considered one of the top athletes in the 2017 recruiting class by Scout.com, Rivals.com, and ESPN. However, 2 injuries adversely affected his college career and he only played 14 games for the Kentucky Wildcats and averaged 5.9 points and 7.9 rebounds in 17.0 minutes per game.Jarred Vanderbilt declared for the 2018 NBA draft and was drafted by the Orlando Magic with the 41st overall pick on June 21, 2018.
