Nottingham Forest are on the verge of signing Wilfred Ndidi from East Midlands rivals Leicester to further bolster their midfield.

Forest are keen to bring signings in before the end of the transfer window this week.

They are closing in on a move for Ndidi from Leicester and talkSPORT understands that the Nigerian is pushing for the move.

After the Foxes were relegated to the Premier League, the midfielder has been keen to return to the top flight.

It will be a hefty blow for the Foxes, who have lost several key players in James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans.

But they have still started the Championship season well under new manager Enzo Maresca with four wins in four.

Meanwhile, Tricky Trees boss Steve Cooper has made bolstering his midfield a priority before the window shuts this week.

He has already landed highly-rated youngster Andrey Santos on loan from Chelsea.

And now Forest look set to win the race for Ndidi, who is renowned for his defensive prowess in the middle of the pitch.

It comes after an unspecified injury to Orel Mangala, who was absent from the squad that faced Manchester United at the weekend, though it is not thought to be serious.

Nevertheless, Forest are desperate to strengthen their squad after a tough first year back in the Premier League last season.

They narrowly avoided relegation and Cooper is keen to avoid another battle to beat the drop.

The City Ground outfit have already made some big signings, including Chris Wood, whose loan from Newcastle turned permanent in the summer.

Anthony Elanga has also signed from United, as well as Matt Turner in goal from Arsenal.

Ola Aina joined on a free transfer from Torino while Santos and Gonzalo Montiel have joined on loan.

There could be exits from Forest before the end of the window, including Jonjo Shelvey and Harry Arter in midfield.

Gustavo Scarpa, who only signed in January, has also left on loan to join Olympiacos.
